COOLBAUGH TOWNSHIP -- A Monroe County man is accused of spotlighting an aircraft at the Pocono Mountains Municipal Airport.

Police say Wladyslaw Gabrys, 64, of Coolbaugh Township, is accused of shining a spotlight earlier this month on an aircraft that was flying into the airport near Mount Pocono.

The pilots were able to land safely, but some pilots we spoke to say this incident could have been very dangerous.

It's something pilots never want to have to happen to them. A bright light shining right in their eyes as they try to land. But, police report that’s exactly what happened on June 10.

Gabrys is accused of  shining the spotlight on an aircraft that was flying into the airport during nighttime takeoffs and landings earlier this month.

Moyers says this is the first time he has had to deal with an incident like this. He's glad no one got hurt.

"I'm just surprised anyone would very do this because I mean it is dangerous," he said.

Pilots tell us even though they are trained for situations, like what happened here last week, it's always important to be on your guard and if something like this happens to you, abort the landing.

Chris Harrison is a pilot. He's never dealt with a spotlighting incident personally but knows it can be very dangerous. He teaches his students the importance of being aware in the air.

"We train for this kind of stuff," explained Harrison. "But of course, no one wants to see something like that happen."

The FAA was contacted and they will continue the investigation and determine if federal charges will be filed.

No charges have been filed locally for Gabrys as of yet.
