Two Die in Plane Crash in Centre County

UNIVERSITY PARK -- Two people were killed after a small plane crashed in Centre County.

A small plane was on its way to the airport went down in a wooded area about a mile outside University Park Airport around 8:30 a.m. Thursday, officials said.

Investigators say airport personnel spotted smoke coming from the aircraft.

The pilot and passenger were killed, the coroner confirmed. They were the only two on board.

University Park Airport was closed for a time and reopened just before 10:30 a.m. Thursday.

The National Transportation Safety Board out of Ashburn, Virginia, is handling the investigation with support from the Federal Aviation Administration out of Harrisburg.
