KINGSTON -- Three dozen students from Wyoming Seminary's Upper School in Kingston were taken for a ride during science class Friday.
They learned about all the technology that runs Tesla's vehicles, like how they run without a gas engine and can even run without a driver. They also learned about the business behind the science.
Rachel Barton is the school’s S.T.E.M. teacher who said, “By realizing a business plan, you can address specific issues or challenges that need to be addressed.”
One of Tesla's biggest issues is meeting consumer's demand. The California company wants to produce 500,000 vehicles by 2018. That's several times the number of Tesla vehicles sold last year.
Part of the reason for the increase in interest is Tesla’s new, cheaper Model Three. It was introduced in March and costs less than half of the $70,000 price tag of some of Tesla's other models.
"It's supposed to be more practical,” said Bill Hinko, who owns a Tesla himself.
Some ninth grade science students hope Tesla is able to roll out enough vehicles for them by the time they're old enough to drive.
