Our yearlong streak of above normal temperatures each month has come to an end in the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton area.

The warmer than normal temperatures each month started last April.

April Ends Yearlong Streak of Above Normal Temperatures

During April 2015, our temperature was 1.1° warmer than normal for the month. For many, it was a welcome change after one of the coldest winters we’ve had in quite some time. February that year was the 3rd coldest February with an average temperature of 17.7°.

Each month from April onward featured above normal temperatures. Most notably, December 2015 was a month to remember. Our average temperature was 13.8° warmer than normal for that month.

The warm stretch continued all winter. While some areas did see a snowy winter, many of us saw a fairly quiet season. Williamsport for some perspective only had 7.7” of snow all season. Normally they see about 36”.

Here are some stats for April 2016 (for Wilkes-Barre/Scranton): The average temperature was 47.7°. We had 2.2″ of snow along with a few days of flurries. The area had 2.69″ of rain, which is -0.64″ from normal. Our temperature for the month was -0.9° below normal.
