LOCK HAVEN -- The largest individual donation in the Pennsylvania university system was made Tuesday to Lock Haven University in Clinton County.
You would think a record donation like the one the school received Tuesday would come from an alumnus, but Stephen Poorman went to Elizabethtown College.
When we asked the businessman what made him want to donate to this state university, he said it was his love for Lock Haven.
After four years at Lock Haven University, Akeley Hall has become more than just a building to Colby Wagner. It's become a second home.
"Much of my time, actually most of my hours outside of class were spent right here," Wagner said.
So the teachers and the classes were memorable, but what about the name of his business college?
"I don't know if it actually has a real title. It obviously has a real title," he said.
Lucky for business students, their college now has a new, more memorable name.
Lock Haven University's business college is now The Stephen Poorman College of Business.
Poorman stopped by the university for the special dedication.
"I'm very honored and especially because it's Lock Haven," Poorman said.
The Lock Haven native recently donated $7.1 million to the university. It's the largest donation from an individual donor in the state system's history.
"We are a small school and schools like Temple, Penn State, they haven't gotten anything like that, so it's pretty awesome that it's here at a small school like we are," said senior Alex Eoumerhy.
So why would a man who did not attend the university donate so much? Poorman says it's to help students like Colby Wagner, and because of his love for his hometown.
"Lock Haven University is our hometown. It is a major fabric in our community. I don't know what I would do here in Lock Haven without the university," said Poorman.
Lock Haven University plans to use the $7.1 million to add more teachers to the faculty and create more programs in the business college.
