JESSUP -- A groundbreaking is set for Saturday on a controversial power plant in Lackawanna County.

Chicago-based Invenergy is building a natural gas-fired electric power plant off the Casey Highway in Jessup.

Many fought the plant fearing the emissions and noise would outweigh any benefits. That lawsuit was dropped in January.

This week, Invenergy bought two tracts of land for almost $5 million.

The company plans to have the plant running sometime in 2018.
