MOSCOW -- A funeral home in Lackawanna County was filled with dogs Friday evening.

Around 50 dogs, big and small, showed up at the Duffy Snowdon Funeral Home in Moscow for the funeral of Barb Lampman, 77, who lost her fight with cancer last Sunday.

"Not only did people love her, but the dogs loved her too," said friend Carol Hemphill. "I really think the dogs sense her loss."

Lampman spent her professional career as a substitute teacher for Scranton and North Pocono school districts, but she spent most of her spare time teaching and training the next generation of therapy dogs. She even formed the local chapter of Therapy Dogs International.

"The reaction you get in people is just incredible," Hemphill added. "They forget all their stress and their worries and fears and the dogs are always so happy to see them."

About 50 of those former "students" showed up to say goodbye.

"We all came here to pay our respects to the trainer that basically created this group," added friend Clara Cammerota.

This was the first time this funeral home held a viewing specifically designated for dogs, filling the room with unconditional love for the lost loved one.

"This is just keeping with her spirit," explained funeral director Kevin Duffy.
