SCRANTON -- Work is moving ahead on a new community center in Scranton.
The West Scranton Hyde Park Neighborhood Watch hosted a groundbreaking ceremony Friday morning at the site of the future West Scranton Community Center on Washburn Street.
Project organizers recently received $15,000 in grant money to help turn an old warehouse into a new place for the community. The next phase of the project will address repairs or replacements of basic building maintenance and upkeep, including chimney replacement, plumbing repair, window and door replacements, and upgrades to the exterior of the building.
Crews have been working on the building since January. The majority of the improvements are expected to be completed in May.
