NESQUEHONING -- In Nesquehoning, people are getting used to the sound of screeching tires and crash scenes. In three days, three tractor-trailers have crashed near the intersection of Routes 93 and 209.

No one was seriously hurt in any of the crashes, but at this rate authorities say it may just be a matter of time.

For Jeff Hoffman, the crashes in Carbon County sound eerily similar to what happened on Gordon Mountain Road in Schuylkill County.

Back in September, three trucks also crashed in three days at the bottom of the mountain.

There were several crashes in the borough before that. In one, the driver died.

Finally in December, the borough was able to get PennDOT to agree to ban trucks from coming down Gordon Mountain Road.

That's exactly what many people who live in Nesquehoning want to see on Route 93.

Hoffman, who's on Gordon Borough Council says it took the council three years to make that happen.

"I think it is worth the challenge, and I think it will all work out. I'm told by early fall the new signage will be up and hopefully our problems will be solved," said Hoffman.

A temporary sign on Gordon Mountain Road warns trucks they are not allowed there.

Hoffman hopes a similar one will be put up in along Route 93 in Nesquehoning, since some truck drivers ignore the 38 signs posted along Route 93 warning them to slow down and lower their gears so they don't lose their brakes and crash.

PennDOT plans to meet with authorities in Nesquehoning to decide what will eventually happen on Route 93 in an effort to stop the crashes.
