GREENE TOWNSHIP  -- One person is dead after a helicopter crash in Pike County.

The coroner was called to the scene of a downed chopper in Green Township late Sunday night, near Promised Land State Park.

Officials haven't said exactly where or why the helicopter went down, nor who was aboard.

Monroe County sent three fire departments to assist at the scene.

Pike County's Emergency Management Agency Director Tim Knapp told Newswatch 16 they found the wreckage using coordinates and pings on the pilot's cellphone and were able to locate the aircraft.

Authorities said the Federal Aviation Administration is expected to search for the cause of the deadly helicopter crash.

Well, whoever it was , earlier in day they were flying real low just above the trees near where I was at in blooming grove. I thought for sure i’d hear something crash then. That’s how scared I was, never heard anything come that close before.

Call it what you want. As of the time I posted that last night, every aircraft for MedEvac, PennSTAR, Life Flight and Commonwealth had been accounted for.

I can confirm that this did not include any of the area’s medical helicopters. Prayers to all those that were involved in this tragic event.
