WILKES-BARRE TOWNSHIP -- The world-famous Harlem Globetrotters hit the hardwood in Luzerne County Saturday and someone from our area suited up with the team after winning a contest of a lifetime.

Some would call the Harlem Globetrotters the greatest show on hardwood and for fans at the Mohegan Sun Arena near Wilkes-Barre, it did not disappoint--with trick shots and a little bit of choreography.

"[It's] good to get the kids out of the house and see a good event in the Wilkes-Barre, Pennsylvania area," said Neil Kaiser of Lehman Township.

But upon closer look, one of the Globetrotters on the court stood out. Michael Gombita of Wayne County was chosen in a nationwide social media contest to be the first fan ever drafted by the Harlem Globetrotters. The Misericordia University sophomore had a chance to hit the court with the team for a quarter.

"They ran me through some plays that I'll be participating in the game. I'm just really excited," Gombita of Equinunk said.

He fulfilled a dream in front of many who helped get him here.

"It could've happened to 200 other people, but I was the most lucky of all to have this opportunity happen to me and very blessed that the majority of my family, friends, colleagues and college professors--you name it--they're out here to support me."

And for this basketball fanatic, it was a chance to be a Globetrotter for a day.
