PLAINS TOWNSHIP — The nurse accused of being drunk during surgery at the VA Medical Center near Wilkes-Barre has resigned.
According to his attorney, Richard Pieri resigned from the medical center Wednesday.
According to investigators, Pieri told police he had four or five beers at the nearby Mohegan Sun Pocono casino. He said he forgot he was on call. He was then paged to the medical center. He was responsible for preparing a patient for an emergency surgery, preparing materials in the operating room, and monitoring the patient’s vital signs.
Pieri faces charges of recklessly endangering another person, DUI, and public drunkenness.
