UPDATE: A road in Luzerne County is finally open again after days of all sorts of problems.

Main Street in Dupont reopened around 3 p.m. Thursday. Crews have partially filled the hole in the street with concrete and dirt.

DUPONT -- Main Street in Dupont remains closed, as crews continue to repair a water main break.

According to officials, a mine subsidence is involved in the double water main break in Dupont Tuesday. They are now trying to figure out which happened first. The mains then broke again early Wednesday morning.

The water company reported that repairs have been made to water mains on Main Street in Dupont, but while repairs to the water pipes are complete, crews are now working to repair a sewer line that broke.

When the 10-inch and 8-inch water mains broke Wednesday, crews didn't expect repairs to take long. Now, the mains are repaired, but the hole around the pipes keeps caving in, partially because of a mine subsidence. The hole stretches the width of Main Street.

"I don't think they're addressing it as quickly as they should have been addressing it," said Kim Butera of Dupont.

The hole around where those water mains broke has grown significantly over the last day. Crews don't know how deep that mine subsidence is. It's concerning for many people who live around it.

"Could my house have went under? Am I under some mine? " asked Nick Bonafede.

"There's a lot of mines in Dupont," said council president Stanley Knick.

Dupont borough officials don't think the hole will get any bigger. They say residents shouldn't be concerned, but the big hole is still doing big damage.

Repairs are expected sometime Wednesday night. Crews will finally be able to fill the hole in the street on Thursday.

"They're going to fill it with concrete, and it'll choke everything up and it'll be solid," said Knick.
