SCRANTON -- Christians around the world are marking the beginning of lent with Ash Wednesday observances.
Parishioners received ashes Wednesday morning at St. Peter's Cathedral in Scranton.
The Lenten tradition is a sign of the person's mortality.
The season of Lent culminates with the celebration of Easter which falls on March 27 this year.
