TAMAQUA -- Schuylkill County was one of the places hit hardest in our area by the weekend snow storm. Two days later, people are still digging out.

Almost everywhere you look in Schuylkill County, there is someone shoveling snow off a car or a sidewalk.

DPW crews are still plowing streets into mountains of snow. Crews tell us it will take weeks before they get rid of most of this snow.

There's been some unity in Schuylkill County over the past few days. Everyone has been dealing with the snow.

"Last time I seen it like this was back in 1996!"

The weekend snow storm is almost as bad as the blizzard of 1996. It dropped 24 inches in many parts of Schuylkill County and as much as 27 inches of snow in Port Carbon.

DPW crews have been working for days plowing the roads and now, some crews have already started the process of getting rid of some of the snow.

There is so much that many people are stuck digging themselves out.

"It will take them freaking two months to clean this," said Keith Smith of Tamaqua.

"I got up Sunday morning about 4 o'clock in the morning and tried to get my car out down there," said Thomas Trout of Port Carbon. "Got that out, and I had to get the driveway out. Now I'm working on my truck up here."

It's a lot of work digging cars out of this much snow, so much so that the tradition of 'claim the spot' has begun with people putting chairs in the area they dug out.

In Tamaqua, the borough's DPW crews will begin the process of removing these giant snow mounds Monday night.

They will have dump trucks in the downtown area around 9 p.m.

Most parts of Schuylkill County are also starting the removal process Monday night.
