NEWTON TOWNSHIP -- Folks in Lackawanna County are coming together to help a family in need.

Members of the Ransom Community, near Clarks Summit, are accepting donations for the Surplus family after a fire destroyed their home in the Sunset Mobile Home Park on Friday.

Their three dogs were also killed.

Now the Newton Ransom Volunteer Fire Company along with the rest of the community are doing what they can to help the Surpluses find a silver lining.

"It's great," said Newton Ransom Fire Chief Jeff Lacoe. "It's the best thing we can do and it helps bring everyone in the community together."

A pasta dinner is also scheduled for February 6th at the fire company to benefit the family.
