HARRISBURG -- You can now see where those PennDOT plow trucks are during a winter storm from the comfort of your own home.

The Commonwealth has hundreds of trucks ready to roll in the event of a storm and some of those trucks are equipped with tracking technology so PennDOT and you can see where they are and where they've been.

Not only do transportation officials say the technology will make plowing operations more efficient but some folks say it should improve safety on the roads.

"There's a lot of times people are commuting to work or trying to get anywhere. To have that advantage of knowing what road's been plowed or not before you leave, that's good," said David Hinds of Waymart.

About 60 trucks have the technology in the northeastern counties. The program only applies to the highways.
