PRICE TOWNSHIP – Cold weather has many ski areas making snow as fast as they can, that includes Alpine Mountain near Canadensis.

The family-owned resort is rushing to get the hills ready for skiers this week.

"We call it the 2015 - 2016 ski season and we're staring in 2016. It's just been the weather, who would have ever expected this kind of weather?" said Alpine Mountain owner Kevin Fabiano.

This year Alpine Mountain has brand new snowmaking machines and new pumps, four times more powerful than last year, but it still was no match for Mother Nature until now.

"We made giant mounds and the temperatures weren't agreeing with us and it just all melted off and we had rain and everything else, it took it all away,” said maintenance employee Ryan McCue.

While the ski lifts were closed, workers stayed busy building a deck and working on other projects around the lodge.

In the Yuengling Bar, there are now 200 new places to sit and enjoy a bite to eat. Upgrades were made to guest services, ski patrol, and the lockers as well.

But now crews are busy changing gears.

"Get all these guns ready and move them all around here and over to snow tubing more and up to the top of the trails in the next day or so,” said McCue.

And with ideal snowmaking temperatures through this week, this ski resort plans to open at 9 a.m. Thursday.

"The temperature is going to be optimum plus on top of that the humidity, the humidity is only going to be in the 40th percentile. So we're going to have mountains and mountains of snow out there,” said Fabiano.
