DICKSON CITY — Decked out in blue and white, dozens of Penn State fans showed up to Happy Valley Sports Bar in Dickson City. They cheered on the Nittany Lions as they took on the Georgia Bulldogs in the Taxslayer Bowl game in Jacksonville, Florida.

“Happy Valley is a great place in State College, and now we have a place close to home where we can come and watch the game,” said Nick Tunis of Jessup.

The Taxslayer Bowl game is the first game where fans had to travel since the NCAA sanctions were lifted.

Tunis was excited to watch the Lions play in the bowl game and hopes to see the team play more bowl games.

“Franklin had a good year and hopefully next year, with all his recruits coming in, he will have a better season,” added Tunis. “But I’m a Penn State fan until I die.”

With a packed house inside, people tell us it’s nice to be able to watch the Penn State game in a place called Happy Valley. With a crowd around, it makes the game even more exciting.

Peter Lee is originally from Scranton. He made a trip from Florida to see family. As big Penn State fan, he tells us if he can’t be in Florida watching the game Happy Valley Sports Bar is a good place to be.

“This is great. This is what they need around here,” said Lee.

In Taylor, Penn State fans were here at Lucca Restaurant watching the game while also supporting a more local team with a benefit for the Rolling Thunder Gold Softball Program.

“You watch the bowl game and it’s a good way to make a couple dollars for the team and everyone can have a good time,” said Mark Avelino, Rolling Thunder Manager.

Even though the Lions didn’t take home the win, fans tell us they are still proud of the team and look forward to next season.

Penn State lost to Georgia 24-17.
