LIMESTONE TOWNSHIP -- A family in Union County is left to pay thousands in vet bills after someone shot their dog with an arrow last week.

Major, a 2-and-a-half-year-old boxer, enjoyed some extra love and attention at his home near Mifflinburg Friday.

With about 90 acres, the Seebold family takes their dog out on walks behind their home, but after a stroll last week, Major stayed outside.

Andrea Seebold knew something was wrong when she saw blood on the front porch.

"Major came from under the front porch. He was definitely injured. He had his insides hanging out of him on both sides. There was an entry and an exit wound," she said.

With three worried children, mom and dad rushed Major to the vet's office.

"I didn't know what was really going to happen to him," Seebold said. "The vet says it was an arrow. The arrow wasn't with him anymore."

Major's middle name just happens to be Lucky. His owners say he was lucky enough to find his way home, that's why they decided to go ahead with surgery.

"He was looking at us like, 'Help me, help me.' He's our fourth child. He was going to be saved no matter what," Seebold said.

The dog suffered broken ribs and serious injuries to his intestines and bowels.

"I don't think there is anyway this could have been a mistake," said Seebold.

Her 10-year-old son Garett said it made him sad.

"You shouldn't do that to people's dogs," he said.

The family is worried vet bills could reach nearly $10,000.

"If it wasn't for credit cards I don't know what we would have doing," Seebold said.

Now that Major is home and recovering, the family has reached out to state police in Milton for help. They want to know who and why someone shot their dog.

"They could have called the police or something. There is no reason why anyone should have done this to any animal for any reason," Seebold said.

The family has set up a GoFundMe account to help cover vet bills. If you would like to help, you can find it here.
