SUNBURY -- To say a state store in Sunbury was busy on New Year's Eve is an understatement. At times, the line wrapped partially around the store.

"The line is crazy. I've never seen it like that," Tiffany Jones said.

Employees say New Year's Eve and Christmas Eve are the busiest days of the year.

"Well they call it amateur night. Everybody gets drunk tonight I guess," Kerri Lockcuff said.

Employees at the state store in Sunbury were prepared for the large crowds. The manager says they were fully staffed and they continuously stocked shelves throughout the day so there would be plenty of alcohol to choose from.

"I'm stocking up. I don't come in here often and this is crazy," Jones said.

William Wood of Sunbury was buying alcohol for his New Year's celebration.

"Got a little bit of rum, Calico Jack, peach schnapps," Wood said.

He says he plans to have a relaxing New Year's Eve. "We're just going to have a little celebration with the kids and with the family. Just kick back and enjoy the holidays," added Wood.

Employees say everything is popular on New Year's Eve, but the biggest seller of course is champagne.

No matter what you choose to celebrate with, Kerri Lockcuff of Sunbury hopes everyone stays safe and does not drink and drive.

"Stay home or get a DD, definitely. Walk," Lockcuff said.

The state store in Sunbury is open until 9 p.m. Thursday for the last-minute shoppers.
