RALPHO TOWNSHIP--When it comes to food on New Year's Eve, it's all about tradition for many people. That tradition means seafood for a lot of people in the Shamokin area. Boyer's Food Market made sure people were taken care of with an outdoor seafood stand.
"We have everything from crab legs to shrimp to lobster tail to fresh seafood, haddock, cod, all the fresh fish filets," Giuliano Catania said.
Boyer's opened the outdoor seafood stand earlier this month. Carole Myer of Shamokin makes it a regular stop.
"I always come over here and get my clams for New Year's," Myer said.
Jim Beddall came from Selinsgrove to buy his seafood here.
"I come over here annually before New Year's Eve to get some seafood. They have some good deals. I get some lobster tail," Beddall said.
"We make a seafood boil. It's crab legs, shrimp, clams, potatoes, the whole nine yards," Carole Myer said.
And it's not just New Year's Eve. People have traditions on New Year's Day as well. Many people believe that eating pork and sauerkraut on new year's day brings good luck for the new year. People come to Masser's Farm Market near Shamokin to get those products.
"Pork and sauerkraut! You've gotta have their homemade sauerkraut," David Latshaw said.
David Latshaw of Shamokin was shopping for those items and more. He says Masser's is the place to go for ring bologna, soupies, pies and kielbasa.
"You can go and you can get what you really want and have it fresh," Latshaw said.
The owner of Masser's says they've sold several thousand pounds of sauerkraut so far this month!
