COAL TOWNSHIP -- On Wednesday, Philadelphia Eagles fans reacted to the announcement team owner Jeffrey Lurie made Tuesday night: Head Coach Chip Kelly was fired. The announcement came with only one more game left in the regular season.

To say the Philadelphia Eagles have had a disappointing season is an understatement. With a 6-9 record, many fans in our area are left disappointed. Eagles Owner Jeffrey Lurie listened and fired Head Coach Chip Kelly.

"I'm ecstatic that he's gone," Jim Gribbin said.

Gribbin of Coal Township is a big Eagles fan and has been his whole life.

"I bleed green," Gribbin said.

He and other Eagles fans we spoke with are happy Chip Kelly was fired.

"I think the decisions he's made has cost the team. It's taken them from a championship caliber team and brought them down to where they're at," explained Gribbin.

With only one game left in the regular season, the decision to fire Chip Kelly came at a surprising time to some fans.

"The owner wanted to make a point, and he did," Dave Kashner said.

But Lurie said during a news conference the timing of Kelly's firing gives the Eagles a head start on their coaching search.

Even some people who aren't Eagles fans tell Newswatch 16 they're happy about the decision to let Chip Kelly go.

"I think it's a good thing. The eagles weren't going anywhere with him and he proved it," Kashner said.

Dave Kashner of Paxinos is a Dallas Cowboys fan. He thinks Lurie made a good choice by letting Chip Kelly go. Kashner did not agree with Kelly's coaching decisions.

"The people they brought in and the people they got rid of, there was no comparison," Kashner said.

Chip Kelly was the head coach of the Philadelphia Eagles since 2013. Coach Pat Shurmer will be interim head coach for Sunday's game against the New York Giants.
