JERSEY SHORE -- Plates were filled and so were many of the seats at the newest restaurant in Jersey Shore -- The Shore Diner.
"I expected, as soon as this was open, I expect this to be open all the time,” said Jeannette Harris from Jersey Shore.
For over 40 years, this building was known as the Crest Restaurant. When it closed over the summer, there was a high demand for another place to eat. New building owners made a quick turnaround remodeling and revamping the menu in less than four months.
"It did make kind of a hole for those of us who are retired and like to go out to eat breakfast frequently," said Daniel Hunter from Level Corner.
"We have just been waiting and waiting and waiting for it to be open," said Harris.
The owners still have plans for a mini golf course in the empty lot next to the restaurant, but as for this building, they tell us they worked hard to make sure the contractors and the supplies were all local.
"Makes me want to come here even more because I think it's very important for local businesses to have work and to support your local people,” said Jim German from Jersey Shore.
With the rush on opening day, the wait staff was already on their toes, working fast, taking orders, cleaning tables, and then something went wrong.
"We ordered and then all of a sudden the lights went out," said Pam Hoffman from Rauchtown.
"It was like, 'what do we do?' All the lights went out but I think we did OK," said Lisa Glunk, a co-owner.
Lights did come back on. Police say a transformer blew down the street.
For Daniel Hunter, gravy over biscuits tasted just as good in the dark.
“It's what I use as a gauge for the quality of all restaurants and they passed with flying colors," said Hunter.
The Shore Diner is now open seven days a week in Jersey Shore.
