DICKSON CITY -- Big box stores are preparing for Black Friday, an unofficial holiday that's evolved over the years.

Back in 1990, Newswatch16 watched as people pressed their faces against the door as they raced for the deals.

Now, you're more likely to find shoppers like Dawn and Kristen Rossignol here at Target in Dickson City, scoping out what they'd like to buy on "Cyber Monday."

"I don't like the fact that you're thankful on Thursday and you're beating each other up on Friday to get a good deal," said Dawn Rossignol.

The days of jostling and trampling one another on Black Friday may be over, but store managers we spoke with all agree: there's still a lot of people coming through the doors.

"There's still a lot of people because it's part of the family adventure of the Thanksgiving weekend to be around your friends and your family for that period of time," said Emily Solomon, general manager of JCPenney at the Viewmont Mall. "You can only do that in a brick and mortar store. You can't get that same sense of adventure online."

Over at Target, assistant manager Tory Price explained that even though the customers are more spread out over the weekend, they're still going full force.

"The line is probably going to wrap around the building," said Price. "But it's really fun for us to get to spend time with our guests and find whatever they need. It's definitely game day for us."

Target's CEO said earlier today that even though more people are shopping online, about 90 percent of business this holiday season is going be done in traditional stores.
