LEHIGHTON -- There's a small memorial on South First Street in Lehighton near Vincent Smith's apartment.

It's where Smith was hit by a pickup truck that police report kept going. He later died.

"The gentlemen used to go in Alfie's here every once in a while and I would see him. He wasn't that old," said Steven Jurden of Lehighton.

Meanwhile, Jennifer Coleman is locked up in Carbon County, facing a homicide charge after that hit and run. Police say Coleman hit Smith with her pickup truck on South First Street and kept going.

Authorities tracked her down less than 30 minutes after the crash and discovered Coleman was out on bail for drug charges earlier this year. She's also charged with a DUI for this deadly crash.

People who travel on South First Street say people go too fast and it's too easy to hit someone.

"It's a race track. It's totally ridiculous. People come down here with trucks going 40, 50 mph. It's just unbelievable the way people drive," said Dwight Frey of Mahoning Township.

Many people in Lehighton say they're afraid to cross the streets because there are not a lot of signs warning drivers about those pedestrians.

"It's a little speedy here. There should be a stop sign to make people go a little slower. At least 15 mph," said Jurden.

Coleman is locked up on $1 million bail.

Investigators are also waiting for results from an autopsy on Smith to determine the exact cause of death.
