SUNBURY--- A long-time jewelry store in Sunbury is going out of business. The place has been around for 70 years, and now a going out of business sale is about to start.
John Dagle Jewelers started out as a watch-making business back in 1945, and over the years grew into a well-known jewelry store in Sunbury. The owners say business has been steady over those 70 years and they want to retire on a good note.
There are a lot of businesses on Market Street in Sunbury, but not many family-owned stores are left. Pretty soon there will be one less, as John Dagle Jewelers goes out of business.
John Dagle opened the store in 1945 as a watch-making business. Over the years it grew into a jewelry store and John's son Steve took over the business.
"Gosh, it's kind-of hard to explain that, I guess.  I've been coming here to work for over 40 years." said Steve Dagle from John Dagle Jewelers.
Steve Dagle says he knows 70 years is a long time to be in business and he's proud of his store's success.
"I'm at the age of retirement.  I'm actually a little past the normal retirement age and I thought now's really the time for my wife and I to take a little more time off and do some other things," said Dagle.
Many of the employees have worked here for decades. Goldsmith Jim Seltzer worked at John Dagle jewelers for 42 years.
"It's a long time to be in one place.  Now it's going to be a piece of history," said goldsmith, Jim Seitzer.
"John Dagle Jewelers was always the spot to go for jewelry,” said Brenda Reichenbach from Sunbury.
Brenda Reichenbach of Sunbury will miss the family owned jewelry store.
"It's just such a home town jewelry store.  That's exactly where I got my engagement ring, my husband got it there.  We just got everything there," said Reichenbach.
Employees are spending the day slashing prices up to 60 percent off for the store's going out of business sale.  So if you have some Christmas shopping to do, now is the time.
“They're getting a big jump-start on it and I'm sure they're going to be really busy," said Reichenbach.
The going out of business sale starts Wednesday at John Dagle Jewelers, which is on Market Street in Sunbury.  The store does not have an exact closing date, but the owner says they plan to be here for one last holiday season.
