UNIVERSITY PARK -- If you tuned in to the Penn State game against Illinois Saturday afternoon, you may have noticed the pop of purple in the stands.

It was all to honor a young woman from Lackawanna County. Kayla Nakonechi of Carbondale participated in THON as a dancer and helped raise money to fight childhood cancer. Then she found out she had brain cancer. Kayla died in early October.

On Saturday, many students honored Kayla by wearing purple T-shirts with the hashtag #TEAMKAYLA.
