COALDALE -- Susan Asbury and Rebecca Grammes have lived on Greenwood Street in Coaldale for years. But recently, the two homeowners say they don't even want to go outside and it has to do with an awful smell.

"Cat urine, ammonia, pure pee stink; it's bad," said Asbury.

"Cat feces we smell sometimes because they do poop in our yard and we live across the street," said Grammes.

The pair says the problem is coming from one house on the block. They say the owners there have been feeding and taking in feral cats.

Now, dozens of cats are all over the place, including people's properties.

"A lot of them are sick. They're just roaming the streets, eating dead animals all over, and they're diseased cats. They have to be," said Grammes.

Neighbors on Greenwood Street say the smell coming from that house is so bad that they can't really do anything outside anymore. Some say they don't even want to sit on their front porch.

"At the bus stop in the morning, people are gagging. As soon as they open their door it just takes over the block," said Asbury.

Newswatch 16 tried to talk the owners of the property people are complaining about, but no one answered.

However, Asbury says she has an answer to the problem.

"We want the cats gone and we want the smell gone."

Coaldale borough says it plans to set live traps to catch the cats and at least get them spayed or neutered.

Other than that, there's no law against feeding and taking care of the feral cats.

Now, Coaldale council is looking into an ordinance to help prevent that in future.
