RICKETTS GLEN -- A 76-year-old woman took a painful tumble off a trail in Ricketts Glen Tuesday, badly hurting her head and hip.

It took crews more than an hour to get to her, but a good Samaritan helped aid her along the way, and it may surprise you to find out who he is.

The guy who helped rescued the woman is someone you might know from the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins ice hockey team, but you probably never actually talked to him. His name is Spencer and he plays the team's lovable mascot, Tux--that is, when he's not hiking in the woods.

“She had taken a really bad gash to her head. She probably has a broken leg and a hip maybe. She was complaining a lot of a lot of pain there,” said Spencer.

He has some medical training and helped comfort her for the hour and a half he says it took rescuers to find her. But the best comfort he brought to her was entertaining her.

“All I did was just talk to her and told her stories and try to make her laugh and you know feel at ease as much as I could and that's funny because that's my job. It's kind of what I do,” Spencer said.

He knows a thing or two about entertaining when he's playing a penguin named Tux.

There is no word on her current condition but medics say she is expected to recover. Spencer hopes to stay in touch with her.

"I'm hoping she's OK!” Spencer said.

The Pittsburg Penguins commended 'Tux' on his efforts in a Facebook post.
