WILKES-BARRE – Members of the 109TH FA Battalion remembered 33 soldiers who were killed in a train wreck 65 years ago.

It happened on September 11, 1950, in Ohio, when a passenger train smashed into the troops stopped train.

Many of the dead lived in the Wyoming Valley.

First Sargent Joe Anistranski was one of the survivors.

"For me, it hurts because it's personal. I lost my best friend and the other 32, so for me it's a hurt that has stayed for a lifetime,” said First Sgt. Joe Anistranski.

For the past 14 years, the annual memorial has expanded to remember those who died on September 11, 2001.
