BLOOMING GROVE TOWNSHIP -- September 12th marks one year since an attack on state police barracks in Pike County.

Trooper Alex Douglass was left seriously injured and Corporal Bryon Dickson was killed.

Recently, Trooper Douglass, who is also a member of Ryan's Run, spoke with Newswatch16 and reflected on how he's still recovering from what happened a year ago.

"I`m still recovering," said Douglass. "The recovery is going to be a long time. But I finally feel like I'm getting back to my normal life for the most part."

So far, it's taken 17 surgeries for Trooper Douglass after being severely wounded in that shooting.

Now, Douglass spends most of his time in physical therapy still working to get better.

"I'm doing really well," said Douglass. "I'm still doing therapy at Allied. I do it for four hours a day, two days a week. Then I usually hit CrossFit Blarney Stone. I'm trying to build my endurance up for the New York City marathon [and] trying to raise money for charity."

Including WNEP-TV's Ryan's Run, which helps kids and adults with disabilities served by Allied Services.

"So many people helped me out throughout this whole tragedy - this is my way to give back to those people in our community," he added.

Eric Frein, the man police say is behind the attack, is awaiting trial on charges including murder and attempted murder. As a result, Trooper Douglass says he can't comment on him at this time.

When Trooper Douglass is not building back up his strength, he can be seen alongside Corporal Dickson's family at events, like when he threw out the first pitch at the Little League World Series Championship last month.

On November 1st, Trooper Douglass with run alongside Ryan Leckey and 34 other area athletes in the New York City Marathon.
