NORTHUMBERLAND -- If you or a loved one has connections to the Shikellamy School District in Northumberland County, you can now permanently memorialize your loved one's name.

The Shikellamy Braves Community Foundation is selling engraved bricks to line the walkway of the new middle school.

Construction continues at the new Shikellamy Middle School in Northumberland. Bricks will line the walkway leading into the new school. For $100 you can buy a brick to support "Shik."

"It's going to be something that's there for a long time and we just think it's a great thing. Support your school, support your local area, and do it in a name or in memory of someone," Cory Fasold said.

Fasold is on the board of the newly formed Shikellamy Braves Community Foundation. He says the foundation was formed to provide grants and other money the school district cannot give. The foundation is made up of community members and school board members. The brick fundraiser is the foundation's first effort at raising money.

"If you have a foundation, obviously you need to have money so you can give some out," Fasold said.

"I think it will be fun to see our name down there on the patio like that," Elaine Harry of Northumberland said.

Harry recently bought a brick. Her brick will read, "The Harry Family."

"With my three going through the school system here, I thought it would be a fun thing to do and have them put it on the patio with our name. So that's why I was interested in buying one. My grandchildren, some of them will be going through the new school," Harry said.

The new Shikellamy Middle School will house students in grades six, seven, and eight and is tentatively scheduled to open next fall.

Organizers say there is a limited number of bricks and they are being sold for $100 each. If you are interested in buying an engraved brick, contact the Shikellamy School District or you can order one at any of the school's home football games.
