LEHMAN TOWNSHIP -- The wet weather couldn't come at a worse time for the folks at the Luzerne County Fair.
Wednesday night's rain dampened the first night of the fair and Thursday night it did it again on day two.
For the second day of the Luzerne County Fair, Mother Nature didn't play, well, fair.
The damp and dreary weather turned the fairgrounds near Dallas into a ghost town, pretty much all the people walking around were the fair workers.
“I've seen no one. We got here at 3:30 and there's been nobody here today,” said vendor Jeremy Evans. “There's nobody here. I don't think anybody will come out tonight.”
For the vendors who traveled both near and far for the 53rd year of the fair, this isn't the weather they were hoping for.
“You can't do a thing about the weather. You have to take it as it comes. Last week it was in the 90s, this week it's raining,” said vendor Joy Ann.
But there were some die-hard fair-goers who came out, including Sara Seashock and Nathan Burkey who came out from Wilkes-Barre.
“Well, he works weekends so this is the only day we can do it and we're not going to miss it,” said Seashock.
“Good day to come out, no lines,” said Burkey. “I mean, it was still a little rainy, but she insisted. But we're going to make the best of it, you know.”
Chet Mozlom is the executive director of the Lands at Hillside Farms, a dairy farm in the Back Mountain.
Hillside has its ice cream truck at the fair for the first time.
“It's our first time at the fair, so far, we won't judge it by this year,” said Mozlom.
But he says when it comes to the farm, this rain is much needed. It feeds the farm's grass, which in turn feeds the dairy cows.
“Well, it's really big for us because we're a rotational grazing dairy, without the rain, our cattle really don't have feed.”
The vendors at the fair are trying to remain upbeat as well.
“Hopefully some people will come out, after last week they should come out and dance in the rain,” said Joy Ann.
The good news is once the rain cleared out, more people came out.
The Luzerne County Fair runs every day through Sunday.
