SCRANTON -- Two cities in our area experienced water main breaks only hours apart from each other.

People in part of Scranton are starting their day without water.

A pipe burst on Spruce Street around 1 A.M. on Tuesday just as crews were working to fix another break on Franklin Avenue.

Crews said Spruce Street from Penn Avenue to Wyoming Avenue were expected to close while they repaired the six-inch main.

People who live in the Hotel Jermyn told Newswatch 16 they don't have water.

The water company hasn't said when to expect the main to be fixed or what caused the breaks.

Meanwhile, another water main break in Wilkes-Barre has being repaired.

West Market Street from River Street to Franklin Street is being worked on because of a 12-inch pipe that burst just before 4 A.M. on Tuesday.

Officials have not said how many homes or businesses are being affected.

Workers plan to tear up the road to see how bad the damage from that break is.
