Tractor-Trailer Hauling Mulch Catches Fire, Causes I-81 Backup

LACKAWANNA COUNTY -- Interstate 81 Northbound was down to one lane after a truck's tire caught fire Tuesday morning.

According to the driver, the truck he was driving blew a tire as he was heading north towards Carbondale from Allentown hauling wood pellets and mulch. When the driver pulled over, he said another tire caught fire.

No one was hurt, but I-81 north was backed up in the Moosic and the Montage Mountain Road area as far south as the Pittston exit for most of the morning.

All lanes were open by Tuesday afternoon.
