STROUD TOWNSHIP -- An animal shelter in the Poconos received a big donation of food Wednesday thanks to a veterinarian who wanted to make a difference.

Dr. Joe Valese of the Animal Hospital of Mount Pocono delivered 500 pounds of pet food to the AWSOM Animal Shelter near Stroudsburg.

The food was collected last month through a social media campaign.

"There was some synergy through the fans of AWSOM's Facebook page and our own clientele, and our staff pushed the word, so there was a lot of networking of different people making this all come together," Dr. Valese explained.

The vet says he wanted to help draw attention to the need for adoptions in the area and says this social media campaign was a group effort.
