BUTLER TOWNSHIP -- A summer camp in Schuylkill County is taking the kids to new heights. The kids got to see a rocket launch, one the international space program would be proud of.

This summer camp is a blast.

"I just love learning. It's science, science and science. I just love it," said Jonathan Hinderliter of Fountain Springs.

About 40 kids in the North Schuylkill School District are taking part in a summer science space camp. It's a week long, free of charge, and they kids get to see rockets launched.

"It helps engage them in STEM, which would be science, technology, engineering and math, which is a big push to keep the kids active, thinking and problem solving," explained Kevin Harris, a teacher in the Williamsport area.

Harris and his wife make the rockets and then travel to other STEM schools in the summer to launch them.  All of this stuff is similar to what NASA would use.

"These are very similar to what is used in the big rockets, just a lot smaller."

The kids watched three launches and learn everything from what propels the rockets to the drones that watch them fly.

And the kids couldn't get enough.

"See what kind of engines, and hear them explain what they did, and how powerful they can go up to," said Sarah Campbell of Frackville.

The last rocket went the highest of the three, traveling 1,700 feet, and when it came down, it found a nice comfortable landing spot.

"I like the last one, the big one."

"I'm definitely coming back next year."

Now these kids will have something to brag about when school is back in session.
