SCRANTON-- At the 91st Solemn Novena in honor of St. Ann you meet two kinds of people.

People who like the heat.

Eileen Varzaly says,"I was born in July, I love it, it could be 90 every day."

And people who can live without it.

Jean Masko says,"Not humidity, no!"

There are also folks who watch the outdoor mass indoors where there is air conditioning.

The Ezdebski family says they have found the trick. Sit in the spot where the air conditioning vents seem to produce a bit of a breeze.

Michael Ezdebski says," We figure with the top of the hill, and the trees, and the air circulating we get pretty good vent here."

Lori Petrillo says the heat won't keep her from a ritual that has profound and personal meaning.

"I had spinal meningitis, I was in the Philadelphia Childrens Hospital in a coma, and my entire family walked to the 4:30 feast day, sometime after that I guess I got better."

The biggest surprise came at the food building. While ice cream sales do spike with the temperature, volunteers say even on the most sweltering days, the faithful gobble up steaming specialties like hot roast beef dinners.

The 10 day event finished up Sunday evening with a final mass.
