PINE GROVE -- If you ever drive through Pine Grove on Route 443, you've probably passed the Pine Grove Theatre.

It's been there more than 100 years.

People who grew up in the Pine Grove area said the place was like home.

"We grew up two blocks down from the movie theater. On Fridays, Saturdays, and Sundays we lived there," said Barb Dunmoyer.

Its days may come it an end.

The place still uses 35mm film to play movies and Hollywood is switching to digital.

"They're going to stop making film, so when the film is gone, so is the theater," said Louise Miller, the owner of Pine Grove Theatre.

That new technology is not cheap.

Switching to digital will cost $60,000 for just one screen.

The Pine Grove Theatre has two.

"It takes a lot more than just those memories and those thoughts in order to keep the theater in your town," said Miller.

Miller is hoping she can still show movies, so she started a "Dollars for Digital" campaign.

As of now, she'll have to close the theater from September until Thanksgiving because she says the movie industry does not make new film reels unless the movie is a blockbuster.

Miller would love to raise enough money to change one of the screens over to digital by the holidays.

"Give Lousie money so she can keep that movies going for the kids. Pine Grove needs that," said Alive Natale of Pine Grove.

If you want to help save the Pine Grove Theatre, you can drop off a donation or mail a check to 213 S. Tulpehocken St, Pine Grove, PA 17963.
