WOODWARD TOWNSHIP -- If you're near Lock Haven this Saturday you may see a cardboard boat shaped like a crocodile in the water. Thursday kicks off Woodward Township's 20th annual Riverfest. Organizers hope rain won't delay the big cardboard box boat race.

While the sun barely peeked through the clouds above the Susquehanna River near Lock Haven, vendors listened to the weather forecast as they set up for Woodward Township's 20th annual Riverfest.

"It kind of looks like it's headed north of us. It got a little bit coming. I don't think it's going to be anything. It's going to be hit or miss," said James Arvin from Blanchard.

"I'm looking for a beautiful day, no rain, lots of people," said Jennifer Hoy.

Hoy used to help her dad set up for Riverfest. Now that she is a member of the Woodward Township Recreation Board she is getting help setting up from her daughter.

"It's a wonderful day, lots of food, crafts, games,” said Hoy.

A highlight of the three-day event is the cardboard boat race scheduled for Saturday.

"There are so many people that come and watch that cardboard boat race. It's awesome.”

People spend so much time building these creative boats. Committee members say even if the water levels are too high this weekend they will hold the boat race sometime later this summer.

"We are kind of on the edge right now. We're praying the rain stays away right now," said Wally Watt.

Watt took his cardboard boat out onto the Susquehanna River. Watt says folks from all over central Pennsylvania bring boats made out of glue, duct tape, and cardboard to the race.

"Build a boat, sink or float. This is Pennsylvania big woods and it's the greatest place you could have an event like this,” said Watt.

Coordinators hope to raise about $10,000 from the event that helps Woodward Township Recreation Board and Dunnstown Fire Company.

Riverfest ends this Saturday in Woodward Township.
