NORTHUMBERLAND -- It may be hot outside, but Disney's "Frozen" balloons were the popular choice among children at Pineknotter Days in Northumberland. The 43rd annual event was once again hosted by the Northumberland/Point Township Kiwanis Club, and once again, food, games and fun were at the top of everyone's lists!

"Seeing everything that's new and the same thing. Each year there's usually a lot of the same food vendors. It's just nice," Carol Erdman said.

Carol and Scott Erdman of Point Township say they've been coming to Pineknotter Days for more than 30 years.

"It's small but then you get to see all your friends," Scott Erdman said.

So what is a Pineknotter? Kiwanis Club member Jeremy Berry-Propst says it is a tough person. A pine-knot is where the branch goes into the tree and forms a tight knot. He says the club has dedicated volunteers.

"A handful I would say that really get together I would say and really plan this thing. It takes a lot of work and effort but the whole community comes together and it's just a really great event for the town," Berry-Propst said.

Some of the vendors are volunteers, like the local fire department. Their goal is to sell 1,200 pieces of fish.

"We will do that this afternoon," Ty Ulrich said.

The Northumberland Fire Department has a stand at Pineknotter Days every year.

Some people say Pineknotter Days is the official kick-off to 4th of July Weekend.
