RYAN TOWNSHIP -- Hundreds of people in Schuylkill County have set up their campsites for the holiday weekend.

The Fox family from Jim Thorpe was just one of the groups at Locust Lake State Park eager to start celebrating the holiday weekend.

"It's beautiful.  We are frequent campers and this is the first time we are here but we are enjoying the weather and it's good for your soul," said Todd Fox from Jim Thorpe.

Park officials say they have just under 300 campsite spots throughout the park, with only about 50 spots still available for this 4th of July weekend.

Tina Slokan and her family booked their spot back in April and traveled all the way from Baltimore.

"You can get away from your electronics.  We don't have a TV. We have our cellphones turned off or at least on silent in case someone needs to get in touch with us.  We have books, we are talking, we sat out and had a meal together and will have more meals together," said Tina Slokan of Baltimore.

Many of the people we spoke with who decided to spend the holiday weekend here at the park say it's so nice to get out in nature, because you can go camping, hiking, biking and also enjoy the beautiful water.

"Just spending quality time together.  Enjoy the sun, enjoy the weather. Not be stuck in front of a Playstation," said Diana Fisher of Port Carbon.

"It's just nice to get away from being home and seeing laundry or the other things you have to do, like cutting the grass.  It's nice to get away from that," said Slokan.

Other folks hope the weather holds up over the weekend, so they can enjoy the outdoors and soak up some much needed sun.

"Yeah, I don't remember a day it didn't rain. It's been pretty, pretty wet," said Fox.
