SCHUYLKILL HAVEN -- It's a game of connect the dots with mosquito bites.

Lauren Taylor of Schuylkill Haven said she has about 20.

"There's a lot of mosquitoes and they hurt, well, they itch!"

The Department of Environmental Protection will soon be spraying for mosquitoes in Schuylkill County.

No one in the county has tested positive for West Nile Virus so far this year, but the mosquitoes just keep showing up.

"We figured it was best to treat them now, to get rid of them now, before that population escalates," said Colleen Connolly with the DEP.

A lot of that spraying will be done near the Schuylkill River, where many of those bugs like to hang out at night.

Elaine Miller from South Manheim Township said, "As soon as the sun comes down, you have to go inside. The mosquitoes are pretty bad."

The DEP said the spray is made from organic materials and is safe. Officials said once the spraying is done, you can prevent the insects from coming back.

"Tip over any objects in the backyard that have standing water, especially, because mosquitoes like to breed there," said Connolly.

People who live in the Schuylkill Haven area said if spraying will allow them to enjoy summer, then spray away!

"Children like to play outside and catch lightning bugs and we have to be afraid of the mosquitoes and what they're carrying, but it's probably a good idea," said Miller.

The DEP is scheduled to spray in Schuylkill Haven next week.
