SCRANTON -- An emotional prayer service took place Thursday at Bethel AME Church on North Washington Avenue.

Bethel AME is a sister church of the one in South Carolina where nine people were killed in a shooting.

Bishop Joseph Bambera of the Roman Catholic Diocese of Scranton attended the service.

The pastor of Bethel AME in Scranton previously met with the pastor who was killed in the deadly rampage.

"We just want to get together and do our little part here in Scranton. Just pray together and lift up in numbers those persons and family members left to deal with the tragedy in days ahead," said Pastor Tawan Bailey.

Prayer vigils were held across the country to remember those killed in the attack.
