SCHUYLKILL HAVEN -- The annual Schuylkill River Sojourn launched Saturday morning from the Schuylkill Haven Island Park.

The 112-mile guided canoe/kayak trip begins in Schuylkill Haven and ends seven days later in Philadelphia.

Participants from 14 states are taking part in this year's event.

"This is actually our record breaking year in terms of how many people are doing full trip," said Silas Chamberlain, Schuylkill River Heritage Area’s Executive Director. "186 participants in some part of sojourn, popular than its ever been before."

Organizers hope that by getting people out on the river, they'll become advocates for its protection and restoration.
