LEHIGHTON -- More than a thousand athletes took on the challenge of a triathlon in Carbon County on Sunday.
The first leg of the Black Bear Triathlon started with a swim at Beltzville State Park near Lehighton.
After they hop out of the water, it's on to the bikes and then a run across Beltzville Dam.
Participants say that every part of the course had it's own challenges like the hills for biking or being out in the hot sun for the run. However, they say it was a great day overall.
Kristen Hughes of Dickson City said, "The event is great, this park is great. This is just beautiful, it's just a great day for this event."
"It was really fun just seeing all these different athletes come out. People that I trained with, it was just a lot of fun," added Bobby Wolfel of Jessup.
This is the ninth year for the triathlon in Carbon County.
