HAWLEY -- Standing in line at the deli section of one grocery store in Hawley is becoming a thing of the past.

That's because shoppers now have the option to text the deli department at the Lake Region IGA store.

It all started with a single idea from frequent shopper Tim Quinn. He gave the store the idea by posting it on their Facebook page.

"It just seemed easy. They already had the email thing going on with the orders, so now with the text it will just be all in order with it," Quinn said.

Store employees say the emailing service worked, but employees say texting works even better.

"Anything they want from the deli they can text us. They'll get a reply from our deli and it says it's waiting in the customer pick up area. No waiting in line and it's so easy here," Lake Region IGA project manager, Irene Marks said.

"We have a young gentleman who comes in here, he's blind. He has a dog that helps him, a seeing eye dog. He's able to text his order in, pick it up immediately. Whereas, before he'd have to wait in line with all sorts of people," Juliana Brussell of Lake Region IGA said.

Within the last three weeks, more than 150 orders have been placed by using the texting service.

Dawn Arnold, the deli manager says it's making a big difference.

"It's a lot nicer when they know what they want. They can pre-order it and we can get it ready, and they can just pick it up," deli manager Dawn Arnold said.

Shoppers we talked to say they like the idea of being able to send a text and order their cold cuts.

They hope it cuts down on the amount of time they would be spending in line.

"I think it's good. I've got kids and standing in line sometimes waiting for my cold cuts, I'd like to text and order and just come pick it up," Rachel Zawadzki said.

"It's going to be faster. I can come in and get it and that's it. I don't have to stand here," Fran Markman said.

If you're looking to text the deli department at the Lake Region IGA you can text (570) 503-6032.

The deli department is also accepting orders through emails. You can email orderslakeregioniga@gmail.com
