TUNKHANNOCK TOWNSHIP -- State police say one person is in custody and three people were hurt after a stabbing late Saturday night in Wyoming County.

It happened around 11:30 p.m. along Evergreen Drive in Tunkhannock Township near Route 92. Troopers said one person was flown and two others were taken to a hospital.

Shawn Conklin, 39, of Tunkhannock is accused of the stabbing and is now locked up in the Wyoming County Prison, according to state police.

Police and ambulances flooded Evergreen Drive overnight. Next door neighbor Ed Husted called 911.

"Kids were running out of the house saying, ‘He's stabbing people! He just stabbed his wife!’ And then a little while later, ‘He just stabbed my dad in the face,’" Husted said.

Troopers say Conklin was staying with family and used a pocket knife to stab a 50-year-old man, a 31-year-old woman, and a 17-year-old girl during some sort of dispute.

Neighbors said the family who lives at the home was having a cookout a few hours before the stabbings, with about 8 people relaxing and enjoying the nice weather.

"We were watching TV and we heard a big ruckus down the road. I didn't think anything of it, figured it was kids playing. I went to bed, then all of a sudden, fire trucks, lights flashing, cops cars," said Dave Weaver of Tunkhannock Township.

People we spoke with who live nearby say the crime is especially shocking because the neighborhood is so quiet, even a police car is an unusual sight.

“Hearing three people got stabbed? It was very unusual for this area, very shocking, very shocking,” Gloria Russo of Tunkhannock Township said.

"It's very quiet. Nothing like that happens around here,” said Alice Young of Tunkhannock Township. “I am shocked. I am shocked.”

Conklin was arrested and charged with attempted homicide and was locked up on $450,000 bail.

State police have not released the names or conditions of the victims.
