HAZLE TOWNSHIP -- A zoning board in Luzerne County shot down a proposed drug and alcohol rehabilitation center.
The facility would have been placed inside a former tavern in a residential neighborhood along Route 940 in Hazle Township.
The board voted 2-1 Tuesday night with one member abstaining.
The meeting was packed with concerned residents. Many feared the center would increase crime and reduce property values.
The group behind the proposed rehab center has a chance to appeal the decision.
